Irish rock band The Riptide Movement are marking 20 years together with a new orchestral reimagining of one of their best-known songs: “All Works Out.”
Released today (May 22), the track sees the band collaborate with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland for a fresh take on the fan favourite. It is the first of two songs to emerge from the project as part of the band’s anniversary celebrations.
Originally recorded during a special orchestral performance in September 2020, the track is now receiving its official release for the first time. Reimagined with arrangements by Brian Byrne and conducted by Gavin Murphy, the new version adds cinematic weight to a song already packed with emotion.
The Story Behind “All Works Out”
Originally released in 2014 on Getting Through, “All Works Out” became one of The Riptide Movement’s defining songs. The album reached No.1 and went Gold, helping push the band to a much wider audience.
The song’s themes of resilience and support struck a chord with listeners. Its reach grew even further when it featured in Tourism Ireland’s Discover Ireland campaign. It later appeared on NBC’s Today Show in the United States.
The song’s surreal hospital-set music video also became memorable for many fans. Directed by Thomas Hefferon and Johnny Han, it starred Irish actors Amy Huberman and Paul Ronan.
A Full-Circle Celebration
Reflecting on the release, the band described the emotional impact of hearing the song reimagined with an orchestra.
“‘All Works Out’ has always been a really important song for us and for everyone who has connected with the band over the years. We’ve played it hundreds of times live, but hearing it performed with National Symphony Orchestra Ireland brought a whole new emotion to the song. It feels nostalgic, cinematic and new all at once, and releasing it now feels like the perfect way to celebrate 20 years together as a band.”
For a band celebrating two decades together, revisiting one of their signature songs feels fitting. Rather than simply revisiting the past, the release gives new life to a track that helped define a major chapter in their career.
Twenty Years In Motion
Earlier this year, The Hidden Track spoke with guitarist and vocalist Mal Tuohy about the band’s journey. From teenage Oasis-inspired beginnings to sold-out venues, he reflected on the slow build that led to their breakthrough.
Speaking about Getting Through and the rise of “All Works Out,” Tuohy described the period as transformative.
I was really proud of that album. It’s a really catchy album and it just took off. People really connected with it… We were building for ages and ages and the next thing we were everywhere.
Mal Tuohy to The Hidden Track
The song gained new momentum after a performance on The Late Late Show. Soon after, it was selected for a Fáilte Ireland campaign and became difficult to escape.
What Comes Next
The orchestral version of “All Works Out” is only part of the band’s anniversary plans. During our recent conversation, Tuohy also hinted at more music, a live album recorded in Whelan’s, and a return to the band’s roots on upcoming material. “We’re 20 years in,” he said. “This year will probably see the most we’ve ever put out.”
If the original “All Works Out” captured The Riptide Movement at a breakthrough moment, this new version feels more reflective. It celebrates not just a song, but the journey behind it.
