Dublin-born alternative artist A.S. Fanning has announced his highly anticipated return to Ireland next month with his first headline tour in nine years.
Former lead vocalist of The Last Tycoons, Fanning has been grounded in the German capital for more than a decade.
Forging a a distinct solo career, he often draws comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Scott Walker and Nick Cave, sitting at an intersection of alternative rock, folk and psychedelia.
His single “Carmelita” — a dark depiction of addiction and urban decay — is his best-known work.

Latest Release
August 19th saw the release of his menacing new single “On Your Side”. Taken from a forthcoming B-sides EP, titled“Unbearable Miracle”, the six-track collection arrives on September 18th, less than a week before the tour kicks off.
Produced and mixed by Robbie Moore at Idea Farm, Sweden, the song features Fred Sunesen on drums and percussion, Felix Buchner on bass guitar, David Adams on synthesizers, Bernardo Sousa on guitars and tape loops and Robbie Moore on backing vocals.
“‘On Your Side’ has always been a bit of its own standalone thing. It didn’t quite fit the last album, and it’s never been played live, so it occupies its own strange space.
It centres around a feeling of anxiety, and how our brains have the ability to make us think that enemies are everywhere and conflict is everywhere. It’s sort of about the idea of a divided self.
I remember my Dad saying that he always felt his body was on his side but he wasn’t sure if his mind was with him or against him. In this song, I think I’m saying to a person who’s having a battle against their mind that I’m in their corner, whoever that separate self might be.”
The EP follows Fanning’s latest album, “Take Me Back To Nowhere” which was released in February. A record shaped by disorientation, fracture, and a fascination with the unstable nature of reality, it earned extensive praise upon release across Irish, UK, German and international media. The succeeding EP will comprise six alternative and remix versions of songs from the album.
